Feng Shui – Introduction

Feng shui is a 3000 years old Chinese practice which is embraced by many people even today because of its positive effects and good results. It is a proper blend of knowledge and science which teaches us the right way to balance the energy of any place for a good fortune and a fit health. Etymologically, the words “feng” means wind while “shui” means water according to the Chinese language which symbolizes a healthy body and a good fortune.

The ancient Chinese people believed that the land on which we live is alive and is completely filled with lots of energy (chi) which had the power to either make or even break a kingdom. Thus the theories of yin and yang and the five feng shui elements are just a few of the basic aspects of feng shui which are based on the Taoist vision. The five elements that are involved in feng shui are water, metal, fire, wood and earth. And all the things in the world are influenced by the movements and interactions of these 5 elements. In feng shui, the interactions of the five elements is used to increase positive chi and to decrease negative chi. The main tools that are used to perform all the necessary analysis in feng shui, includes the feng shui compass and the Ba-Gua.

The feng shui compass also known as the lo-pan is keenly used to achieve the in depth information about a given location, house or a building. In the word lo-pan, “Lo” means everything and “pan” a bowl which thus acts as the answer to the various mysteries of the world and the universe. The ba-gua is a simple octagonal grid with the famous I-ching symbols which is an ancient Chinese oracle on which the feng shui is mainly based. The knowledge of ba-gua proves to be very helpful to understand the association of the specific areas of your house with a few areas of your life.
