What is Reiki?

Reiki, reiki teachersReiki is among the many non allopathic treatments available to us. Reiki is considered as one of the most effective methods of treatment. Reiki has proved to be so effective that, in the United States, Reiki is part of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). So, what reiki is all about?

Reiki, originates from Japan. The name itself is made up of two words Rei meaning “spirit or soul” and ki meaning “energy or atmosphere”. Thus Reiki compounds to “Spiritual Energy”. Reiki was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui. You can read more about the history of Reiki in the History Of Reiki. Originally Reiki was a complex process of physical and mental “cleanup”. The process of Reiki rejuvenates us with spiritual purity and helps us gain a confidence that is helpful in today’s fast life. Reiki has definite advantages over most of the other alternative methods. There are five basic principles of Reiki. Many Reiki teachers and practitioners aim to abide by these five principles, one translation of which is:

  1. Just for today, I will not be angry.
  2. Just for today, I will not worry.
  3. Just for today, I will be grateful.
  4. Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
  5. Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

Reiki is done by the method of ‘laying on hands’. And, it is based on an idea that some unseen life force energy flows through our body, which helps us to live alive. It is believed that if this unseen force flowing through our body becomes low somehow, then we feel stress or get sick and if the force is high then we are more competent of remaining healthy and happy.

More than anything, Reiki believes in spiritual purity. Thus it is believed that reiki is natural, safe and simple method of self improvement and Reiki spiritual healing that can be done by every person. Reiki as a treatment, though might still require a lot of scientific evidence, but morally, it is just 5 simple rules. If all of us follow these rules, “entropy” might just leave the universe.
