cat_gallbladderThe proper functioning of every single body organ results into our hale and hearty health. Every single organ, no matter small or large has a specific important function to perform in our body. One such small organ in our body which performs a very crucial function in our body is that of the gall bladder.

Sizing to about 3 to 4 inches in length, this pear shaped organ has its functioning related to the functioning of liver in our body. The liver has various functions, of which removing the various poisonous substance from our blood is one of its most important functions. The extracted poisonous substance is then slowly removed from our body to maintain a better health. All these extracted toxins are excreted into a digestive substance which is called the bile. Generally, bile also comprises of the other materials such as the cholesterol, lecithin, bile salts, etc. Every day, about just one pint of the bile flows into the gallbladder where it is stored until the food arrives in the small intestine from the stomach after digestion. The gall bladder then releases the bile juice from the gall bladder through the cystic and bile ducts into the intestine which then mixes with the wastes and then is excreted through the body in the form of feces. Thus, the gall bladder performs an important function in removing all the toxin wastes produced in our body. But, this small organ faces numerous types of disorders due to the small variations in its concentrations.

Any variation in the constituents of the bile such as that of the bile acids, phospholipids, cholesterol, etc. can simply lead to the formation of gallstones and this is called as the Cholelithiasis. According to one survey, about 20 million Americans suffer from gallstones, which means that about 1 of ten people have gall stones. But, if any of these gallstones simply happens to get pushed into the bile ducts, they may cause vomiting, pain, nausea or excessive pain in the upper right abdominal region. Such conditions are mainly caused due to the intake of fried and fatty food items. These gallstones can vary in their size and can measure right from a small grain to that of a pea. About seventy five percent of the gall stones usually are the cholesterol stones while the rest are the pigment stones which contain of the calcium salts. These pigment stones are mainly caused due to the intestinal surgery, blood disorders or the cirrhosis of liver, etc. Thus, it gets important that we focus on the food we consume everyday so as to avoid such possible health problems.
