Meditation for beginners
Meditation is the art which requires you to focus all of your attention in one area. Learning and getting mastery at meditation is a gradual process that takes some time. It cannot be mastered all of a sudden. Initially meditation can be difficult. The following steps can make your approach towards meditation a bit easy.
- Schedule : Schedule practicing meditation twice a day but stick to the schedule.
- Breathing : Start practicing the meditation with deep slow breathing. This sort of breathing relaxes the muscles, slows the heart rate, and helps focusing of the mind.
- Stretching : The tendons and the muscles can be loosened by stretching. This will make you more comfortable at sitting or lie for meditation.
- Purpose : Meditation is an active process. When practicing meditation one has to focus his or her attention on a single point. Focusing at a single point may be very difficult to attain but you have to do it purposefully.
- Frustration o not let the feeling or thought of frustration disturb your meditation. The frustration part of your life should not be given any thought at this moment. And, if the frustration feeling starts, then try to focus on your breath, you will see that the frustrated feelings go away.
- Feeling : When the meditative state starts becoming dominant start feeling the relaxation first in the feet and then slowly upwards to your head. This is a right way towards the path of meditation.
- Comfort : Meditation has to be practiced in a comfortable room. Make sure that this room is neither the sitting room nor very near the road.
- Reading : Read some books on meditation. Do some research on it. This will help you a lot especially if you are just a beginner.
- Listening : Usually a CD or a tape is provided with the reading material. Practice according to the instructions given in these CDs and Tapes.
- Long term : The benefits of Meditation become obvious over a longer term not in a shorter term . So one has to be patient and practice meditation for a long time.
- Disturbance: Disturbance is the biggest impediment for meditation. Try to minimize the effect of disturbance on the meditation. Try do the meditation in the room where there is no one to disturb you.
- Movements : When you are meditating make sure that there are no physical movements around you.
- Candle: For beginners, meditating with closed eyes is very difficult. The alternative to this is the candle. A candle light can be made the point of focus.
- Stress : This is a most important thing that a beginner should notice. Do not get stressed with the situation prior to and after the meditation.
- Timing : Early morning is the best time to mediate because your mind is fresh and moreover the environment is far more quieter than that in the rest of the day.
- Boring : Since meditation gives results after long term practice do not let the feeling of boring dominate you and make you leave meditation. Pursue it with the same interest and zeal with which you had started. Don’t let the interest wane.
Meditation can be little bit or very difficult in starting but once you start practicing every day it will become easier.
