Toddler Allergies
Allergies in toddlers are as common as allergies seen in elderly people. However, toddler allergy is considered to be more frightening as children neither have the strength to face the allergic symptoms nor can they be given high medications to reduce the allergic reactions. Well, some common symptoms of allergies seen in toddlers include, skin rashes, sneezing, coughing, itching, running or stuffy nose, breathing problems, diarrhea, etc. These symptoms may be caused due to a number of causes such as the nasal allergies, food allergies, asthma, ear infections, etc. They can also be caused due to certain allergens such as food, insects, mold, pollen, dust mites, animal dander, drugs, and many more.
Allergies in toddlers if not treated in the right time, may lead to severe conditions that can be life threatening. Hence, parents should take proper precautions for their toddlers to avoid such allergic reactions.
However, it is very commonly seen that toddler food allergy is one very common cause of allergy in babies mainly as some kids cannot digest food like wheat, fish, egg, milk, soya and nuts. And so, to avoid food allergies in toddlers you should give only those food items that they can digest. Thus, you should always read the food labels before giving it to your child.
Some home remedies to prevent or cure such allergies in toddlers are listed below:
- For reducing allergies like hay fever, nasal allergies and asthma, you should reduce the dust particles from your home, especially the baby’s room. Proper cleaning of home and toys is needed.
- Avoid tobacco smoke and pets inside the home if, the child is suffering from asthma.
- Hay fever allergy is mainly caused due to pollens, and pollen count is often highest in the morning. So, prevent your child from doing any outside activities in the morning.
- Many pollens and dust particles stick to the body during whole day so, bathe your baby before bed. This allows them to have complete sleep without any allergic symptoms.
Herbal remedies are very good for treating many symptoms of toddler allergies.
Garlic has strong decongestant properties and helps avoid nasal infections. The crushed garlic with honey is a good herbal medicine for nasal allergies.
Cayenne pepper’s essential oil is also a natural decongestant and is effective in treating stuffy nose.
Chamomile herb is one of the best herbs for treating many allergies in toddlers. This herb contains anti-inflammatory essential oils that help in digestion.
Mullein flower also contains essential oils that help for treating bronchial congestion and ear infections caused due to flu and cold.
Grated apple is very good for diarrhea. If your toddler is suffering from diarrhea, peel and grate an apple keep it for 10 to 15 minutes, when it becomes brown give it to your child.
Another good medicine for diarrhea is rice water. Add much water to rice and cook it. Later, take out the extra fluffy water and cool it to give it to your child.
Hence, prevent your toddlers from suffering from different allergies by taking proper care and precautions.
